Marker

Founded in November 2000, a few months after the Dot Com crash… when everyone was running from digital, we were just getting started!

  • 2000

Jon Beattie, current CEO, leaves dotcom start-up Asia Online, to start EBC Group Limited.
  • 2001

We relaunched the NBR website and built a ton of TXT apps...long before apps were really a thing.
  • 2002

We rebranded to "The Outfit". We won the Sony PlayStation NZ ecommerce business, combining our love of dev with our love of games!
  • 2003

Our TXT marketing platform for The Radio Network is a Finalist at the GSM Awards in Cannes, France.
  • 2004

We won BMW and MINI New Zealand account, developing and supporting a network of sites and digital platforms for the group, including all the dealerships.
  • 2006

We rebranded and relaunched as Marker, a full service digital agency. Lots of clients asked us to get them on My Space. We said no.
  • 2007

We delivered our first of many projects for CourierPost (part of NZ Post), allowing their business customers to print courier labels at their premises via a web app.
  • 2009

We launched our first iPhone app for St John. This app enjoyed a meteoric rise in the App Store charts.
  • 2010

We were one of the first companies in the world to build an app for Windows Phone, which was also our first original game title, AlphaJax. A multiplayer word game.
  • 2011

We sold the game AlphaJax to Microsoft Studios and founded our sister company, Marker Metro, the world's first Windows app agency.
  • 2012

Marker Metro delivered the first of many game projects for Disney. Apps and games are seriously a thing now, so much so, our app and game dev team is now bigger than the original web & API team.
  • 2014

We adopted the Co-Design methodology for use in kick-starting digital transformation projects.
  • 2015

We delivered dozens of apps, games and of course web apps and API projects between 2012 and 2015.
  • 2016

Marker is acquired by RYVL, a public company head quartered in London, UK. Jon Beattie, founder, stays on as CEO.
  • 2017

Marker Studio and Marker Metro are formally merged to create one team (again), and we rebrand (again) to Marker.
  • 2018

Available on XBox One, Steam (Mac and PC), App Store and Google Play - Samsara - our first original game title in 6 years!
